The author has the unique ability to make history come alive through fiction. I love history and often worry
that those younger than me will ever understand the historic events I have lived through. Will they really
"get" what happened or will those charged with the responsibility of recording the event get it wrong and
that poor version will be what people accept. If Bill Pezza keeps writing, future generations will benefit
from a more accurate record of the past.
I loved the characters. They were so real and reminded me of the many broken men I saw at "The Wall"
in D.C. a few years back on a somber Memorial Day weekend. They also reminded me of my uncles, two
who came back from Vietnam alive and one who didn't. I will miss them.
Mr. Pezza did a good job of highlighting the class issues associated with the draft, the effect war has
on those who served, those who didn't and those who loved them all. He also captured the second
war at home, trying to get veterans benefits, very well.
There are some great exchanges in the book about faith and prayer that I will refer back to in
times of need. There are also some great psychological exchanges about healing that I will also reread.
Buy this book! You won't regret it. It keeps those young boys who are too often
forgotten, in the forefront. Everyone needs to read this book.
